Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at Crankworx Rotorua 2018

March 26, 2018 / Athlete News

The first stop of 2018 Crankworx World Tour in Rotorura (NZ) is in the books. Our #KendaHeroes from UR Polygon Team did very well with GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE medals!

On Wednesday, it was time for the classic AirDH where it's all about jumps and berms. It was the first time that Mick was racing this event and what a first time!

The Dual Speed & Style took place on Friday, Sam Reynolds was riding really well and he managed to make it to the quarterfinals. The race to the semi-final was so tight and he just lost by 0.01 seconds. To lose by such a small amount of time was a bit disappointing for Sam but we have clearly seen that Sam was on a very good shape for this Speed and Style Crankworx season.

On Friday night, an amazing crowd came to watch the riders for the Whip Off World Championships. It’s always cool to see this event in front of such a huge crowd cheering at them. Sam and Alex did some great whips and both went all the way to the super final finishing in the top 10.

The Downhill race took place on Sunday at Crankworx Rotorua. After a great week of practice with a quite clear weather, we expected a lot of rain for the weekend. The rain turned the course in such an insane track which was really slippery. On finals day, Mick put a really solid run and managed to get the 2nd place. He shared the podium with Sam Blenkinsop and Finn Iles.

The main Downhill race took place on Sunday at Crankworx Rotorua. After a great week of practice with a great weather, we expected a lot of rain for the weekend. The rain turned the course in such a difficult slippery track. Unfortunately for Kenta, as he is still not 100% with the recovery of his broken humerus, it was more safe for him to not race yet. On the other hand, Alex Fayolle pushed a bit too hard and crashed but still finished 11th. For our man on fire, “Sick Mick” Hannah, it was another great result with a really fast run and even a little crash but he managed to get a great 2nd place!

After those three podiums, Mick remains 2nd at the King of Crankworx ranking and stepped on another podium for that!

We are really happy to start the season with such great results and positive vibes! We’re all looking forward to racing the first World Cup next month in Croatia! Another Crankworx Rotorua in the books!
